NATA Architecture Entrance Exam Patterns

NATA Pattern

Drawing Paper—100 --- 3 Drawing based questions are asked as follows:

·         Memory Drawing (50 marks) – Questions are complex and advanced. Scenes or scapes have to be drawn from an odd points of view e.g. modern city scape from point of view of high flying bird.

·         3D Designs (25 marks) – Students are asked to visualize and draw balanced 3D structures or still life giving effects of light and shadow.

2D Designs (25 marks) – Students aesthetic and color sense is tested. Questions are for compositions, posters, logos and other communications.

Aesthetic Sensitivity—100--- This is a multiple choice, online and computer adaptive test. 

There are 40 questions, each carrying varying amount of marks depending on how easy or difficult the questions are. Each student gets a different set of questions. The questions are aimed at testing basic mental abilities (e.g. Quantitative Abilities, Analytical thinking, English) and architectural awareness of the students.

Total-- 200

Eligibility for NATA: 10+2 from any recognized board with 50% marks. Maths is compulsory. Science stream is not necessary.

Drawing Test

This is a two-hour paper where candidate has to attempt two questions. One of the questions has two sub questions.

The drawing aptitude is judged on the following aspects –

Ø   Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner. Ø   Visualizing and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on surroundings. Ø   Sense of perspective drawing. Ø   Combining and composing given three dimensional elements to form a building or structural form. Ø   Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes and forms. Ø   Creating visual harmony using colors in given composition. Ø Understanding of scale and proportions. Ø   Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on themes from day to day experiences

Aesthetic Sensitivity Test

This is computer based test of one hour where candidate has to answer 40 multiple choice questions. The aesthetic sensitivity test measures perception, imagination and observation, creativity and communication along with architectural awareness and comprises of –

Ø  Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings. Ø  Visualizing different sides of three dimensional objects. Ø  Identifying commonly used materials and objects based on their textural qualities. Analytical reasoning. Mental Ability. Ø  Imaginative comprehension and expression Architectural awareness.
